SnapNotes Privacy Policy

SnapNotes is a browser extension that lets you save text highlights from webpages into a local notebook on your device. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Data we process

When you choose to save a highlight, SnapNotes stores locally on your device:

• The text you selected
• The page title and URL of the source page
• An optional favicon URL (from the page or the site’s /favicon.ico)
• Wishlist names and organization you create
• UI preferences (theme, sort order, last selected wishlist)

Where data is stored

All note and wishlist data is stored in your browser’s IndexedDB. Settings are stored in chrome.storage.local. SnapNotes does not operate servers and does not upload your notes to the cloud.

Network activity

SnapNotes may perform a network request to the source website’s origin to resolve a favicon when saving or displaying a note. No analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking services are used. SnapNotes does not send your highlights to external services.

Permissions

• storage — save theme and UI preferences
• sidePanel — display your notes library
• tabs — open the source page when you choose “Open source”
• host permissions (<all_urls>) — inject the capture UI on pages you visit so you can save highlights from any site you browse

Data retention

Data remains on your device until you delete individual notes or wishlists, clear browser extension data, or uninstall SnapNotes. Exported Markdown or JSON files are saved to your device at your request.

Your choices

• Delete notes and wishlists at any time from the side panel
• Export your data as Markdown or JSON
• Uninstall the extension to remove locally stored data

Security

Notes are stored unencrypted in your browser profile. Anyone with access to your device and browser profile may be able to read them. Do not save passwords, payment details, health information, or other sensitive data in highlights.

Children

SnapNotes is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy when the extension changes. Material updates will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
